Scientific collaboration: Agricultural Land Abandonment as a Global Land-Use Change Phenomenon

As part of the scientific collaboration with international research institutions, assoc. Prof. Miroslava Bavorová is currently a member of the coordinating team for the global working group Agricultural Land Abandonment as a Global Land-Use Change Phenomenon.” The group’s main goal is to understand better the patterns, underlying causes, and implications of land abandonment in connection to sustainable land use, especially in the Global South. Furthermore, the group aims to assess the implications of abandonment on the environment and societal well-being; and to synthesize the existing knowledge on the abandonment process while engaging with the land system science community through seminars, thematic workshops, reports, and research papers.

The working group is part of Global Land Programme GLP an interdisciplinary community of science and practice fostering the study of land systems and the co-design of solutions for global sustainability.” Multiple research groups are working under the umbrella of GLP to generate actionable knowledge in support of sustainability transformations in land systems.
