Our recently published study in the journal Plant Biosystems (IF: 1.3, Q3 in Plant Sciences) documents, applying an ethnobotanical approach, the diversity of medicinal plant species used as tea in the coastal region of Syria. The study examines the intersection between medicinal and recreational uses of herbal teas providing novel insights into the ethnobotanical knowledge of medicinal plants in an understudied area.
Our study demonstrates the blurry border between recreational and medicinal use of herbal teas in the study area and highlights the most culturally salient species, which may have promising economic and medicinal values [e.g., Micromeria myrtifolia Boiss. & Hohen. and Teucrium procerum Boiss. & C.I.Blanche (Lamiaceae)].
