Nigeria: Effects of Agricultural Credit on Deforestation

This research is a collaboration between the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences (Assoc. Prof. Miroslava Bavorova and Mustapha Yakubu Madaki ), the Agrometeorological station Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi, Nigeria (Abbas Shehu), and the University of Copenhagen (Alexander Prishchepov, PhD). The joint research will explore the effects of agricultural credit on deforestation in Nigeria.

Data was collected in Northern Nigeria, both at the household and other actors/partners levels using structured and semi-structured questionnaires with the aid of trained enumerators. More than 400 farmers were interviewed in northern Nigeria on their access to agricultural credit, credit utilization, saving and their agricultural expansion, uses of forest products and marketing.
