Nigeria: How climate change affects households’ food security?

Mustapha Yakubu-Madaki, a PhD candidate in our research group is studying how climate change in Nigeria has affected farming households' food security. In his study, he focuses on climate change awareness among farmers, what strategies the farmers adopt to mitigate the effects of climate change, and is there linkages between climate change adaptation strategies and households’ food security?

For his research, 1,080 farmers were selected across the six agroecological zones of Nigeria. Data were collected using questionnaires in face-to-face interviews between October 2020-January 2021. Data collected included farmers’ household characteristics, farm and institutional characteristics, climate change information sources used, climate adaptation strategies adopted and household food security indicators.
