Bulus Barnabas began his Ph.D. in the fall of 2019 after earning a Master's degree in Agricultural Extension from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Nigeria. His dissertation, titled “Assessment of the Home-Grown School Feeding Program on Pupils’ Educational performance and Nutritional Status in Northeastern Nigeria,” the study examines how the program improved pupils nutritional status and educational performance. Furthermore, the study also examines how the program enhances smallholder farmers' household food security by connecting them with caterers. Additionally, he evaluates the food safety knowledge of vendors responsible for preparing meals for pupils.
During his doctoral studies, he published four research articles in reputable scientific journals and participated in several conferences related to his field. He successfully defended his dissertation in July 2023 and has since returned to Nigeria, where he continues to lecture in the Department of Agricultural Technology at Federal Polytechnic Bauchi. He also remains actively engaged in research collaborations with members of FTZ on ongoing projects.
