Giri Prasad Kandel

Dr. Giri Kandel is a researcher and employed at the faculty of FAPPZ at the Czech University of Life Sciences (CZU) in Prague. Specializing in climate change, adaptation strategies, food security, and migration, Dr. Giri explores the socioecological dynamics affecting vulnerable communities, with a focus on agroecological zones and social groups. Utilizing frameworks like action theory, adaptation theory, and intersectionality, Dr. Giri Kandel investigates how climate change impacts farming systems, food security, and migration patterns. A key aspect of this research is understanding how climate-induced disasters affect agricultural sustainability and exploring strategies to enhance resilience among farmers.

In addition to food security, Dr. Giri Kandel examines the link between climate change and migration, using the pull-push theory and neoclassical economics of labor migration to understand decision-making processes in response to environmental stressors. Dr. Giri Kandel is actively involved in three European projects: Eco-Ready Project, Inspire Project, and Nostradamus Project, which focus on developing resilience strategies and policy tools for addressing the socioecological challenges of climate change, particularly within the European food system.

Looking ahead, Dr. Giri Kandel plans to expand research into the complexities of socioecological systems, incorporating emerging theoretical perspectives to better understand adaptation and migration dynamics. Dr. Giri Kandel's future work will continue to emphasize policy engagement, aiming to influence sustainable development strategies and improve the resilience of vulnerable communities. Through interdisciplinary research and collaboration, Dr. Giri Kandel strives to provide actionable insights and solutions to the pressing challenges at the intersection of climate change, food security, migration, and sustainable development.
