Summer School in Cambodia
In the end of August and at the beginning of September 2017 I was honored to take part in Summer School Cambodia, provided by the Faculty of Tropical Agriculture, CZU. We spent there 14 really nice days.
Cambodia is the stunning country and from our point of view, it is so interesting to see the contrast between rich historical religious monuments and the poor people in the street. Cambodia also has amazing food (mainly for rice and fish lovers). History of this country is interesting (as much as some parts are sad, it is important to know about it, to not make the same mistakes).
The theme of the summer school was called Scientific Writing. It was really interesting to me because as a university student I write a lot of seminary papers and theses. We attended school in Phnom Penh every day for about 5-6 hours. During the first week, our teacher was presenting information about scientific writing (stages, important rules...) and doing the research (collecting samples etc.). The second week we spent most of it out of school practicing new skills.
There were a lot of other activities (besides school). We went on a trip to the beautiful ancient town called Oudong, we also manage to see memorial called Killing fields and a lot of other monuments in Phnom Penh.
Cambodian students were really generous and kind. We spent time together at university. Besides it, we planned “international lunch” on our last day. We also spent last night in a club with these awesome people.
Overall, it was a really good experience. I met a lot of great people (both from the Czech Republic and Cambodia). I learnt new skills useful for studying. Also, the contact with that different culture extended my mind and I re-evaluate values in life. Thank you for an opportunity to be a part of this project.
