The Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague is proud to introduce the first graduates of its online Master's programme in Tropical Agroecology – Dirk Thienpont and Martina Panero. Congratulations to both on this remarkable achievement!
This milestone represents an important step in the development of innovative teaching at the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences and demonstrates that high-quality university education can be successfully delivered in a fully online format, regardless of where students are located.
The Tropical Agroecology programme focuses on the relationships between plants, animals, people, and the environment within tropical and subtropical agricultural systems. Students gain knowledge of sustainable farming practices, food systems, agroecological principles, and the socio-economic dimensions of rural development. By combining cutting-edge scientific knowledge with practical experience, the programme equips graduates to contribute to sustainable and resilient food systems while supporting local communities around the world.
Designed as a combination of online learning, self-study, and interactive seminars, the programme is particularly suitable for professionals wishing to advance their expertise while continuing their careers. Students can study from anywhere in the world while becoming part of the international academic community of the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences.

Meet Our First Graduates
Dirk Thienpont successfully completed the Tropical Agroecology programme and became one of its very first graduates. During his studies, he also travelled to Cambodia, where he gained valuable field experience that complemented his academic journey. The photographs accompanying this article capture both his thesis defense and moments from his time in Cambodia.
Martina Panero conducted research in Kyrgyzstan during her studies, where she collected data for her Master's thesis. Reflecting on her achievement, she said:
"I am very happy to have achieved this important milestone. I hope to stay in touch with the professors and fellow students and continue collaborating with them in the future."
