A remarkable achievement for our faculty! Şeyma S. Celina, a PhD student at the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, has been awarded both the Josef Hlávka Award and the Prof. Stoklasa Award.
A meaningful recognition of years of effort
“Receiving the Josef Hlávka Award and the Professor Stoklasa Award is a deeply meaningful honour for me,” Şeyma says. “They reflect years of hard work, dedication, and passion for science and research, and they represent important recognition from the Czech academic community. These awards inspire me and strengthen my motivation to continue pursuing high-quality and impactful science.”
Research at the crossroads of animal, human, and environmental health
Şeyma’s research focuses on the molecular and ecological dynamics of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) and its main vector, the tick Hyalomma marginatum, across the Western Palaearctic region.
She studies how genetic, environmental, and ecological factors shape the distribution of this species and influence its ability to transmit the virus. By integrating molecular data with ecological and computational approaches, her work contributes to a deeper understanding of host-vector-virus interactions and supports improved surveillance and public-health preparedness.
As climate change and global animal movements reshape the occurrence of tick-borne diseases, this research plays a crucial role in advancing One Health-oriented approaches to disease monitoring and prevention. “This topic reflects my long-standing interest in research that connects veterinary, human, and environmental health,” she adds.
We warmly congratulate Şeyma on this outstanding achievement!
