We are pleased to invite you to attend the dissertation thesis defence of Seyma Celina with the title “Molecular Ecology of Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever Virus in Western Palaearctic” (Department of Animal Science and Food Processing, Tropical Agrobiology and Bioresource Management). Thesis defence will take place on 12th September 2025, 10:00 a.m., meeting room 313 (building FTZ).
This thesis explores the ecology of Hyalomma marginatum ticks and the Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) across the Western Palaearctic. Using literature reviews, genetic analyses, ecological niche modelling, and field-based surveillance, the research reveals how environmental factors, host associations, and climate change shape the virus’s distribution. The work contributes to evidence-based strategies for early warning, risk assessment, and targeted control of CCHFV in a rapidly changing environment.
