Erasmus+ at FTZ: Moldovan Student Gains New Experiences and a Global Perspective

What is it like to study at the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences through the eyes of an international student? Alexandru Iuti? from the Technical University of Moldova (UTM), a student of Agribusiness and Rural Development, spent the summer semester at the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU Prague), as part of the Erasmus+ KA171 International Credit Mobility programme. During his stay, he not only expanded his academic knowledge but also gained valuable international experience that, in his own words, will shape his future career.

Alexandru chose the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences because of its international focus on sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and rural development. Studying at CZU Prague gave him the opportunity to explore new approaches to teaching and research while broadening his perspective on current challenges in agriculture.

Modern Learning in an Inspiring Environment

One of the highlights of Alexandru's exchange was the modern learning environment and teaching approach at CZU Prague.

"The academic infrastructure at CZU is exceptional. The laboratory facilities, experimental greenhouses, and the modern study rooms make a learning environment that naturally encourages research and intensive study. The pedagogical approach shifted from traditional lectures to interactive, seminar-based learning, research project defense, and case-study reviews. This dynamic methodology improved my critical thinking and ability to plan viable agricultural business models."

Throughout the semester, Alexandru also participated in a range of practical activities. He visited the university greenhouses, where he learned about greenhouse operation and management, and was particularly impressed by the tropical greenhouse. He also explored the university farm, took part in practical classes focused on animal husbandry, and visited the CZU brewery, which, in his view, demonstrates how modern innovation can successfully preserve traditional craftsmanship.

An International Environment That Broadens Horizons

In addition to his studies, Alexandru highly appreciated the international atmosphere at the university. Through activities organised by the Erasmus Student Network (ESN CZU), he met students from around the world, exchanged experiences, and proudly introduced the culture and traditions of Moldova. In his free time, he explored Prague and other remarkable places across the Czech Republic, with a group trip to Karlštejn Castle standing out as one of his favourite memories.

An Experience for Life

Reflecting on his stay, Alexandru describes Erasmus+ as one of the most valuable experiences of his life.

"Doing my Erasmus mobility was one of the best and most eye-opening experiences of my life. It pushed me completely out of my comfort zone, helped me become way more independent, and gave me a chance to learn how to work with people from all kinds of different cultures. It also really boosted my confidence and my language skills. Looking ahead, I know this experience is going to have a huge impact on my future. It has made me a lot more adaptable to change, opened my eyes to international career paths I hadn't considered before, and given me a global perspective that I'll definitely take with me into my next steps after graduation."

Every year, the Erasmus+ KA171 International Credit Mobility programme welcomes students from partner universities around the world to the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences. Alongside academic development, it offers opportunities to strengthen language skills, experience new cultures, and build international networks that often continue long after graduation.
