Essential oils, tropical crops, and international collaboration!

Ing. Markéta Houdková, Ph.D., a researcher from the Laboratory of Ethnobotany and Ethnopharmacology at FTZ, undertook a ten-day research visit to Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University (PRSU) in India as part of the Erasmus+ KA171 program. During her stay, she delivered several lectures and seminars on plant essential oils and their applications in treating respiratory diseases and extending food shelf life.

She also toured university laboratories in chemistry, biotechnology, and environmental sciences, gaining insights into their ongoing research activities. This was not Markéta’s first visit to India—she initiated collaboration with PRSU three years ago, successfully

negotiating the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and collecting plant material for research, the results of which will soon be published.

The Erasmus+ program allowed her to establish new professional connections and deepen existing ones, not only in academia but also personally. Her visit further enriched her knowledge of tea cultivation and other tropical crops. She greatly appreciated the opportunity to immerse herself in Indian culture, experience its bustling transport, savor aromatic local cuisine, and enjoy the warm hospitality of its people.

Markéta will share her experiences at Travel Evening 2025, taking place on March 27, 2025, at 6:00 PM in the Alternative Club Tyjátr, Svitavy. The event will feature inspiring presentations from six travelers, and the voluntary entrance fee makes it accessible to everyone.
