In June, Prague hosted the Fairtrade Specialty Coffee Dialogue, an international event bringing together Fairtrade specialty coffee producers from Latin America, coffee professionals, representatives of the entire supply chain, and the academic community. The dialogue provided a platform to discuss coffee quality, fair trade, and the future of sustainable coffee production.
The event welcomed nine coffee producers from Brazil, Honduras, and Nicaragua, who shared their experiences in producing specialty coffee and discussed the opportunities and challenges facing coffee-growing communities. It also fostered valuable exchanges between producers, researchers, students, and other stakeholders across the coffee sector.
The Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU Prague) was represented by Jiří Hejkrlík from the Department of Economics and Development, who serves as Chair of the Board of Fairtrade Czech Republic and Slovakia. His long-standing involvement in the Fairtrade movement contributes to strengthening the links between academia and practice while promoting responsible supply chains and sustainable development.
Participation in events such as the Fairtrade Specialty Coffee Dialogue reflects the Faculty's commitment to sustainable agriculture, responsible trade, food security, and international cooperation. By connecting researchers, students, producers, and practitioners, these initiatives help translate knowledge into real-world impact.
