Last month, students and one teacher from each partner university of the GLOFOR program participated in a joint field course. This year’s journey took place in a breathtaking country that is a dream destination for all forest and nature lovers: Thailand!
During the three-week expedition, GLOFOR students had a unique opportunity to experience Thailand’s stunning landscapes and explore the global and local roles of forestry. They spent 8 days in Chiang Dao, northern Thailand, where they were divided into five groups focusing on different research topics. Additionally, they had the chance to spend 5 days in the vibrant city of Bangkok.
One group, led by Prof. Bohdan Lojka, focused on agroforestry. Before departure, students prepared a research proposal on tree diversity assessment in coffee and tea agroforestry systems in Chiang Dao. During the field course, they visited the study site, collected data through farmer interviews, vegetation, and soil surveys. The students then analyzed the data and presented their preliminary results at the end of the course.
After completing the fieldwork and data analysis, each group will submit a research report, which will be assessed by the supervisor and internal reviewers. The report will follow the academic paper format required for submission to the International Forestry Review journal.
The Global Forestry (GLOFOR) program is a two-year, world-class Erasmus Mundus MSc program taught in English, preparing graduates to tackle the contemporary challenges and potentials of forestry, biodiversity protection, climate change, and circular bio-economy development.
