Summer School in Moldova: Moldovan Culture and Environmental Education

From June 23 to July 4, 2025, a unique Summer School on Moldovan Culture and Environmental Education brought together Ukrainian refugee students from USM, USPC, and UTM for two inspiring weeks filled with discovery, connection, and good vibes.

The summer school was organized as part of the Czech Development Cooperation project “Supporting Ukrainian Refugees through Academic Collaboration between Universities in Moldova and the Czech Republic” [N.25-PKVV-UM-009], funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and implemented by CzechAid. The leading institution was Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, with Assoc. Prof. Tatiana Ivanova Alexiou, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, as the project coordinator.

What did the students experience?

During the program, the participants had the chance to explore Moldova’s rich cultural and natural heritage:

  • They visited iconic sites like Orheiul Vechi, Ivancea, and monasteries Hâncu, Căpriana, Suruceni, Condri?a
  • Tasted Moldovan wines at DIVUS Winery, Asconi, and Cricova
  • Collected water samples and performed water quality tests on the Bâc River
  • Took part in creative workshops — pottery, photography, and were warmly welcomed in the village of Vorniceni, with traditional music and dancing
  • Visited the legendary Stephen the Great’s Oak

The moments we shared are beautifully captured in our photo gallery below — full of joy, friendships, and unforgettable memories.

A big thank you goes to all who made this experience possible — the project experts, local coordinators, and most of all, the students for their energy and enthusiasm!
