Deecmber 7, 2023

Science Day is a complimentary, one-day program for general public (especially targeting on high school students, who are potential future students) interested in the field of science to learn more information about the research activities conducted at the University of Mostar (Faculty of Agriculture and Food Technology) and Džemal Bijedić University of Mostar (Agro-Mediterranean Faculty).

Students were engaged in hands-on lab experiences within several sessions: escape lab, secrets of pH, sensory analysis, green wall, university collections were on display: insects, seeds of useful plants and the university products were introduced: cheese, fruit juices, wine, oils, cosmetics, bakery products. Participants had the opportunity to connect with current students and Ph.D. candidates. As a part of this event, the option of scholarships for students to study in the Czech Republic were presented.

The event was attended by around 200 participants at each of the universities, and all those interviewed evaluated it very positively. The head of the consular development cooperation section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Mgr. Štěpán Šantrůček attended as well and he appreciated the scope, program and concept of the event and the long-term cooperation between the CZU and the universities in Mostar.

It can be assumed that events of this type will contribute to bridging the gap between the academic sector and the general public, attract students in the next academic years and emphasize the high-quality cooperation of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences with universities in Mostar. On behalf of ČZU, Iva Kučerová and Olga Leuner from FTZ and Adéla Fraňková from the Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources participated in the Science Day. From the Mostar side, the project coordinators are Alisa Hadžiabulić, dean of the Agro-Mediterranean Faculty of Džemal Bijedić University in Mostar, and Adrijana Filipović, associate professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Technology of the University of Mostar
