University of Dschang Delegation at FTZ: Teaching, Research Collaboration, and Strategic Partnership

The Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences (FTZ) is hosting a two-week visit from a delegation of the University of Dschang (UoD), Cameroon, under the Erasmus+ KA171 credit mobility project, led by Ing. Jana Mazancová, Ph.D..

The delegation included:

  • Prof. Jean-Paul Asam, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture
  • Prof. Dr. Julius K. Tangka, Head of RES Laboratories
  • Prof. Dr. Catharine Vioyi Tidze Epse Kewir

Teaching and Lectures for Students

The primary focus of the visit was teaching students from various study programs. At the Department of Sustainable Technologies, the guests delivered lectures on renewable energy, food processing, and technology acceptance and adoption.

Under the EU-funded AGRIGEP project and as part of the "Women in Science" campaign, Prof. Dr. Catharine Vioyi Tidze Epse Kewir gave a lecture entitled “Impact of Biogas Technology on Rural Women in Northern Cameroon”. (Photos from the lecture were provided by Bára.)

Research Collaboration and Project Discussions

Several research-oriented meetings and project proposal elaborations took place, further deepening the existing cooperation between FTZ and the University of Dschang.

Strategic Meetings Across CZU

The impact of the delegation’s visit extended across multiple faculties at CZU. The guests met with Prof. Patrick Van Damme, Dean of FTZ, and the newly elected Dean, Assoc. Prof. Hynek Roubík, Ph.D., to discuss future institutional collaboration. Additionally, high-level meetings were held with Assoc. Prof. Jiří Mašek, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Ing. Radek Rinn, Ph.D., Vice-Dean for International Relations of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences.

Excursions and Cultural Activities

As part of their visit, the delegation explored CZU’s laboratories, demonstration sites, and the FTZ Botanical Garden, focusing on experiences in practical educational processes. The guests also immersed themselves in Czech culture, attending the Masopust festival, tasting Czech cuisine, and exploring Prague’s rich history.

The University of Dschang is a prestigious public university in Cameroon, established in 1993. It specializes in agricultural sciences, environmental management, and rural development. The university has a strong research background and extensive international collaborations, particularly in sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and food security. Its Faculty of Agriculture is among the most prominent academic centers in the region, actively engaged in scientific projects with partners across Europe and Africa
