The Government of the Czech Republic offers scholarships within the framework of its Foreign Development Cooperation to support the study of foreign nationals from selected developing countries at public higher education institutions in the Czech Republic. The deadline for submitting applications for the academic year 2026/2027 is 30 September 2025.
General Information
Scholarships for students from developing countries represent an important part of the Czech Republic’s foreign development cooperation and have a long tradition. Since the late 1950s, more than 20,000 international students have successfully completed their studies at Czech universities with the support of these government scholarships.
The program is implemented on the basis of the Resolution of the Government of the Czech Republic No. 870 (27 November 2024) and is jointly administered by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MŠMT) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MZV), in cooperation with the Ministry of Health (MZdr).
Eligible Countries and Study Programmes
Scholarships for the academic year 2026/2027 are available to citizens of the following countries:
Europe: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus (democratic forces) Africa: Ethiopia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Zambia Asia: Cambodia, Sri Lanka Latin America & Middle East: Guatemala, Jordan
Study Options
Scholarships cover the standard length of full-time study in:
- Czech language:
- Bachelor’s programmes (3–4 years, only for applicants from Georgia)
- Follow-up Master’s programmes (2 years, for applicants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Ukraine, and Belarus)
- One-year preparatory Czech language course (mandatory before Czech-taught studies)
- English language:
- Selected follow-up Master’s programmes (2 years)
- Selected Doctoral programmes (3–4 years)
Applicants may be required to pass entrance examinations at the university of their choice. Admission is a prerequisite for receiving a scholarship. Applicants for English-taught programmes must also complete an online English language test as part of the application process.
Conditions of Eligibility
- For a Bachelor’s programme: completion of secondary education equivalent to Czech school-leaving examinations
- For a Follow-up Master’s programme: completion of a Bachelor’s degree
- For a Doctoral programme: completion of a Master’s degree
Please note: scholarships are reserved exclusively for foreign nationals from eligible countries. Citizens of the Czech Republic, the EU, or foreign nationals with permanent residence in the Czech Republic are not eligible to apply. There is no legal entitlement to a scholarship award.
