Aim of the Project:
The project aimed to participate to the Western Giant Eland (Taurotragus derbianus derbianus) conservation and breeding in Senegal, to support the wildlife conservation, to implement local people to the management of natural resources and in consequence to contribute to the rural development on periphery of national parks by promoting ecotourism and biodiversity conservation education.
Outputs of the Project:
- To support the captive breeding programme of Giant eland in semi-captivity.
- To create new breeding herds of Giant eland in Fathala Reserve in Delta du Saloum National Park, Senegal.
- To promote ecotourism in the Delta du Saloum National Park region. Education of locals and their children about necessity of biodiversity conservation and strengthening the knowledge in the sustainable wildlife utilization.
- To contribute to the economic and rural development in the region.
