Dr. Kristýna Eliášová has joined the Department of Wildlife and Animal Sciences at the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU Prague). Her research combines population genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics to better understand how changes in landscapes, climate, and other environmental factors influence the genetic diversity and long-term persistence of wildlife populations.
Kristýna recently completed her PhD at the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, Charles University. With a strong background in bioinformatics, she integrates genomic, spatial, and environmental data to investigate the relationships between genetic variation and the environments in which species live. Using modern genomic approaches, she studies how natural populations persist, adapt, and remain connected across changing landscapes.
More broadly, Kristýna explores how wildlife responds to environmental change at the genomic level. Identifying genetic signals of isolation, declining genetic diversity, and population adaptation can make an important contribution to conservation planning and the effective management of endangered and vulnerable species.
At the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, she will further develop research in population genetics and genomics, biodiversity conservation, and ecological modelling. She also looks forward to establishing new interdisciplinary collaborations integrating genomic, spatial, and environmental data.
Fieldwork is an integral part of her research. In collaboration with experts from Spain, she studies freshwater shrimp inhabiting springs and rivers in the Valencia region. By collecting samples and conducting genetic analyses, she assesses the genetic diversity of local populations and investigates how individual populations are connected. The findings contribute to a better understanding of freshwater biodiversity and support its effective conservation.
