What can plants communicate through scents? Can we learn to communicate with a donkey? And what can science tell us about the common eland? Come and find out at the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences at CZU Prague. On Friday 25 September 2026, FTZ will take part in the nationwide Science Night and offer visitors an evening full of interactive demonstrations, workshops, games and fascinating scientific discoveries.
Every year, Science Night opens the doors of universities, research institutions and other scientific workplaces to the public. At FTZ, you can follow the path of scientific discovery that connects the worlds of people, animals and plants.
The programme features nine different activities, giving you the opportunity not only to discover science, but also to experience it for yourself.
Animals Have Something to Say
How well do we understand animals – and how well do they understand us? During the Animal Whisperer workshop, you will explore how communication between humans and animals works and what role training and positive reinforcement play in it.
In How to Communicate with a Donkey?, you will discover that communicating with animals can be a science in its own right. And if you are curious about what goes on inside an animal’s mind, the Tune in to Animals! workshop will offer you a glimpse into the world of animal senses and perception.
You can also get closer to Africa’s largest antelope in Among the Antelopes, through games, competitions and quizzes. And you can discover first-hand that the common eland is not only an impressive animal, but also an intriguing subject of scientific research. Taste Science: What Can a Common Eland Tell Us? will show how scientists study its life and what we can learn from their research.
Plants That Talk
Plants will also have plenty to say at FTZ. Did you know that plants communicate with one another and can respond to their surroundings? The Secret Language of Plants: A Code of Colours, Scents and Flavours will take you into the fascinating world of plant signals.
Something Is in the Air… Plants’ Fragrant Messages will focus on scents and chemical compounds through which plants communicate with their surroundings.
And if you are curious about how information can be communicated to plants, you can take part in Secret Messages for Plants.
When Science Reaches the Bioreactor
The ninth activity, Hello, Bioreactor!, brings the programme to a close. Visitors will discover how biotechnology can be used to harness microorganisms and other biological processes, and how scientific knowledge can contribute to finding sustainable solutions for the future.
Whether you are interested in animals, plants and biotechnology, or simply want to enjoy an evening full of scientific discoveries, you will find plenty to explore at FTZ during Science Night.
