A Legacy of Excellence:

On March 25, 2026, by Prime Minister Sub-Decree, Dr. Nguon was appointed as the Vice President of the newly established Cambodia Agricultural Science Academy (CASA) within the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).

Shortly after this prestigious appointment, he was honored with the Silver Award at the Cambodian Outstanding Scientists Awards 2026, on March 28, 2026 during the 4th National Day of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI Day 2026), organized by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) in Phnom Penh.

Scientific Vision & Impact:

Dr. Nguon is a proponent of “Living Sciences,” a philosophy that ensures research translates into tangible improvements for rural livelihoods and prosperity. His contributions include:

  • Value-Added Processing: Pioneering technologies for cashew nuts, neglected indigenous crops, and tropical fruit wines to enhance the income of small-scale farmers.
  • Standards & Safety: Standardizing technical protocols for crystallized palm sugar and tropical fruit wines, and integrating advanced food science into national food safety regulations.
  • Academic Leadership and Mentorship: As the former Dean of the Graduate School at the Royal University of Agriculture (RUA), he has mentored numerous Master’s and PhD researchers, fostering an “infrastructure of minds”, aligning Cambodia’s higher education with international quality benchmarks.

Dr. Nguon credits the rigorous scientific training and the global perspective he gained through his doctoral studies under the Erasmus Mundus EURASIA 2 scholarship at the Faculty of AgriSciences, CZU Prague as the cornerstone of his scientific career.

I am deeply indebted to the Faculty of AgriSciences, CZU Prague. The Erasmus Mundus EURASIA 2 scholarship did not just provide an education; it provided the scientific rigor and global ‘infrastructure of the mind’ required to lead our national academy and empower Cambodia’s farming communities.”  Dr. NGUON Samnang
