Sára Kružíková

  • Czech Republic
  • Co-founder of Qazaqseeds s.r.o. and Economist and Specialist in the PR department of an energy company.
  • Our company, Qazaqseeds is a subsidiary/European company of a family business in Kazakhstan. Together with my partner, who also has roots in Kazakhstan, we are aiming to bring quality agricultural products from Kazakhstan to Europe. Our objective is to support the family business in its expansion into the European market.

The family business farms more than 20 thousand hectares of agricultural land where they ethically grow various crops such as wheat, mustard, lentils, chickpeas, oats and primarily brown flaxseed.

Currently, Qazaqseeds focuses primarily on brown flaxseeds, which we offer in organic quality and are suitable for consumption. We also pride ourselves on the fact that our products are not only healthy but also sustainable. We believe that quality agriculture can contribute to a better environment.

And a few questions about your study at FTZ:

  • Why did you decide to study FTA?

For my studies at FTA, I primarily decided to enroll because I wanted to study something related to geography and international relations. I was inspired by my aunt, who studied at this faculty about 30 years ago when it was still an institute. I received her recommendation and chose a programme in English, which was a challenge for me but also a significant advantage for future.

  • What was your study programme and specialization?

For my bachelor's studies, I chose the programme International Cooperation in Agricultural and Rural Development, and then I pursued a master's programme in International Development and Agricultural Economics.

  • What did you enjoy most about?

What I liked most about FTA was the atmosphere. It’s a relatively small faculty, and the teachers remember your name after just a few weeks; they actually know who you are, which doesn’t happen at larger faculties. Additionally, the international environment was fantastic, with classmates from all corners of the world. This is a significant benefit, and I wish everyone could experience it. It really helps with personal development, as it opens your mind and allows you to learn about many new cultures. You also get to use English in everyday life almost within a few months at the fakulty

  • What was your favourite subject/who was your favourite teacher at FTA?

I can't name just one teacher or one subject. In these 5 years I have met many great teachers who are very dedicated and passionate about their subject and focus.

  • Who influenced you the most and why?

I was more influenced by the overall study at this faculty than by one person. The faculty environment and subjects teach you that nothing is impossible. In fact, as far as stories from the subjects we were learning about or even within the course, the faculty tried to accommodate everyone, they didn't throw unnecessary sticks under our feet. I have been very lucky to meet many amazing and inspiring people during my studies, both teachers and classmates.

  • Any recommendations for current and future FTA students?

My only recommendation I can give is don't give up if you are already studying or want to, don't stop. Right now, you have all the right conditions for it, later in life there may not be that much time to study. If something is too hard, focus on it, ask for help and you can do it!

  • How did you get involved in your current work?

I got the opportunity to start Qazaqseeds through my partner's family in Kazakhstan. It was quite a great coincidence that this opportunity with the expansion of agricultural products from Kazakhstan to Europe came to me, who had the opportunity to learn these kinds of things in the faculty.

  • What are your plans for the future?

The plan is to improve in what we do, to be patient and believe that nothing is impossible. It's not something easy because this business is not our main source of income, it's kind of our project, we're in the beginning stages and we're trying to work on it while working our full-time jobs.
