The Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences (FTZ) of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague is currently implementing two important projects in cooperation with partners in the Republic of Moldova, under the leadership of Assoc. prof. Tatiana Alexiou Ivanova, Ph.D., prof.h.c. Both initiatives are funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and reflect the Faculty’s long-term commitment to development cooperation and education.
Modernizing Agricultural Higher Education in Moldova
The project “Modernization and Raising the Prestige of Higher Agricultural Education in Moldova” continues earlier efforts to improve the quality of teaching, make agricultural studies more attractive, and strengthen the connection between academia and the labor market.
Supporting Ukrainian Refugees through Academic Collaboration
The second project – “Supporting Ukrainian Refugees through Academic Collaboration between Universities in Moldova and the Czech Republic” – addresses current geopolitical challenges and supports students and academics who fled Ukraine and are now based in Moldova.
Recent Activities
On April 4, the Czech Embassy in Chi?inău hosted Alumni Meetup Moldova 2025, marking 20 years of successful collaboration between FTZ and Moldovan institutions.
On April 5, Dr. Nina Muntean participated as a project expert in the Open Doors Day at the Technical University of Moldova (Faculty of Agricultural, Forestry, and Environmental Sciences and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine), supported by the modernization of agricultural education project.
From April 21 to 28, 2025 FTZ hosted representatives of three Moldovan partner universities for a training session as part of the project, led by Assoc. prof. Tatiana Alexiou Ivanova and funded by the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which supports Ukrainian refugees through academic partnerships between Moldovan and Czech institutions.
We had the pleasure to meet Assoc. prof. Veronica Prisacaru, former Rector of the State Agrarian University of Moldova, currently Head of the Research and Innovation Department of the Moldova State University, prof. Eduard Coropceanu, former Rector of Tiraspol State University, currently Head of the Institute for Innovation and Technology Transfer of the State Pedagogical University and Assoc. prof. Iulia Corman from the Technical University of Moldova, our long-term local coordinator.
A highlight of the program was a meeting with CZU Vice-Rector Prof. Michal Lošťák on Wednesday, April 24. The discussion focused on CZU’s experience in hosting and integrating Ukrainian students and academics following the outbreak of war in 2022.
