In the reporting period, the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague successfully completed a selection process for four two-year postdoctoral positions. The initiative aims to strengthen the faculty’s internationally oriented research and to support the development of innovative approaches addressing key challenges in tropical and subtropical regions.
The positions were opened across four core departments and were all filled by highly qualified researchers with strong international experience. The new postdoctoral researchers bring diverse expertise, interdisciplinary approaches, and research experience from various parts of the world into the faculty environment.
In the coming weeks, we will gradually introduce each of the new colleagues.
Tomáš Kudera – Postdoctoral Researcher (TRIBE Lab)
Tomáš Kudera has joined the TRIBE Lab team at the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, CZU Prague, as a postdoctoral researcher.
Tomáš is not a newcomer to the faculty. He began his academic journey here during his Bachelor’s studies, followed by a Master’s degree in Tropical Crop Management and Ecology. He completed his Ph.D. in Tropical Agrobiology and Bioresource Management in March 2024 under the supervision of Prof. Kokoška at the Laboratory of Ethnobotany and Ethnopharmacology.
His research focuses on ethnobotany, phytochemistry, ethnopharmacology, and the biological activities of underutilized and medicinal tropical plants, with particular attention to their selective antimicrobial and antiproliferative effects on intestinal microorganisms and in vitro cell models.
Throughout his academic career, he has been actively involved in international research and fieldwork across tropical regions, including Southeast Asia, Polynesia, and East Africa. He has authored and co-authored numerous scientific publications and presented his work at international conferences in collaboration with partner institutions abroad. He further expanded his experience as a junior researcher at the DRIFT-FOOD research centre at the Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources.
Within TRIBE Lab, he will continue developing research linking ethnobotany, plant ecology, phytochemistry, phytopharmacology, and the use of plant-derived resources in food and medicine. In addition to his research activities, he will contribute to the development of the Faculty Herbarium, support the preparation of international research proposals, and strengthen collaboration across research teams within the Department of Crop Science and Agroforestry.
