At the beginning of April, the International Wild Equid Conference (IWEC) took place in Kenya, bringing together international experts focused on wild equids. Representatives of the Animal Physiology and Behaviour research team from the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences (FTZ) also participated in the event.
Mgr. Martina Komárková, Ph.D., presented the results of long-term research on the ethology of semi-feral horses involved in rewilding projects across the Czech Republic. This research builds on more than a decade of collaboration with the non-governmental organization Česká krajina.
Ing. Anna Bernátková, a Ph.D. graduate of our faculty and current researcher at Prague Zoo, introduced new plans for behavioural and ecological monitoring of Przewalski’s horses at reintroduction sites in Mongolia and Kazakhstan.
The Animal Physiology and Behaviour (APB) team, established in 2018, focuses on the links between physiological and behavioural patterns in wild and domestic species, particularly mammals. The team currently conducts research projects worldwide – from Europe to tropical and subtropical regions – including Algeria, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Georgia, Mongolia, Namibia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Poland, South Africa, Spain, and Uruguay.
The team’s research is supported by the Laboratory of Animal Science and the Common Eland and Guanaco Research Facilities.
