Invitation to the Sea Turtles exhibition in the lobby of the FTZ

Come and see the Sea Turtles exhibition in the lobby of the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences. Learn more about the project that focuses on their conservation. All sea turtle species are threatened with extinction, and the situation is most urgent in the Indian Ocean, where many populations have already disappeared. The "Protecting Sea Turtles" project is trying to change this crisis situation and is working with local organisations to protect beaches in two areas of Indonesia (Lembata Island and Denawan Island) and in the south of Sri Lanka (beaches near Dikwella).

They are working with the Indonesian organisation Sehabat penyu Loang and Pamali Indonesia to protect hatchery beaches on Lembata and Denawan islands. These sites are key hatching grounds for endangered sea turtle species such as giant, green and right whales.

They also spent five years providing protection for turtles on Bilang-bilangan and Mataha islands in Indonesia, which are important hatcheries for giant sea karets in Southeast Asia. In Sri Lanka, they also work with the government there to improve sea turtle conservation and provide recommendations to tourists on how to promote effective conservation.

In addition to visiting the exhibition, you can support sea turtle conservation by learning more about this project and helping us spread awareness of this important issue.

The exhibition will be in the lobby until mid-April.

Invitation to Scientific Seminar: "Poaching and Conservation of Elephants and Great Apes in Central Africa"

The Department of Animal Science and Food Processing at FTZ is delighted to invite you to a scientific seminar titled "Poaching and Conservation of Elephants and Great Apes in Central Africa - Insights from a Field Conservationist." This session will feature Arthur F. Sniegon, a distinguished conservationist with extensive experience in the heart of Central Africa.

Date: March 28, 2024

many other taxa is occurring. The talk will discuss specific cases from

14 years of travel, volunteering and working in Congo, Cameroon and
